Proclamação da República

Happy Proclamação da República Day! Yes, it’s another holiday here in Brazil. I could get used to all these holidays, lots of paid days off of work. I like that! Today we are celebrating the day that Brazil became a republic on November 15, 1889. Did I mention that November 1 and 2 were also holidays? The next one is on December 8 — the day that I leave, but only for Cintia — it’s a court holiday.

It’s been cold, dreary and rainy again today. The forecast doesn’t really look too good for the rest of the week either. So much for Sugarloaf and the Christ statue…Cintia said that we’re just going to have to wait for a sunny day and just go. She said she would take a day off from work and we’d just wait for a pretty day. It’ll have to be kind of spur of the moment, but that’s okay with me. But it’s a little harder for her to do since she has a job. And a life. I, on the other hand don’t have any plans or anything to do that would interfere with spontaneous plans…

Cintia and I took lunch over to Gi and Wander’s apartment in Itaipu and ate with them today. Then I watched Toy Story 3 with the boys. I think I enjoyed it more than they did. I love that movie. Gosh, I got all teary eyed at the end when Andy gives the toys away and has one last play date with them. Those have got to be some of my favorite movies of all time. I really wanted to watch it in English, because it feels wrong to have anyone but Tim Allen and Tom Hanks voices…oh well.
